60 PUPILS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

There are approximately 60 pupils at ISK, from many different countries around the world. They have left their home country for one reason or another. Their parents might be academics who are working at the university in Wageningen for a few years. They might be children of migrant workers or refugees, or they have perhaps come to live in the Netherlands due to family reunification.

They live in Wageningen or the surrounding area (Veenendaal, Rhenen, Elst, Opheusden, Renkum, Heelsum, Dodewaard). Most of the pupils have never had Dutch lessons before, although some of the pupils aged 12 or 13 may have had some exposure to the language at primary school and then continue learning it when they move to ISK. Experience has shown that an extra year at ISK can often be a very effective way of bridging the gap to give them a good start in regular secondary education.
